Laser Fractional

Fractional laser: A modern non-surgical lifting.

The two main factors that contribute to skin aging are dehydration and sagging.

The sagging of the skin is due to the gradual decrease in the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin's dermis. Collagen and elastin form a protein matrix responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin. It takes several years for the loss of this matrix to cause visible signs of sagging.

Fractional laser means that only a fraction of the skin is exposed to the effect of the laser. Fractional lasers work by creating tiny holes in the skin. The skin responds by rapidly healing and shedding old “damaged cells” to reveal new healthy skin. Specifically, it induces multiple thermal microtraumas with controllable parameters such as energy intensity, penetration depth, microtrauma diameter, scan density, and more.

Specifically, the fractional laser heats the water within the surface layers of the skin, causing the sublimation of both the water and its tissues. This is followed by the healing of the skin, where collagen and elastin are produced from the walls of the thousands of microwounds.

New skin is healthier with fewer visible lines, wrinkles, sun damage and scars.

Fractional lasers can improve skin elasticity, texture, fine lines and deep wrinkles, acne scars and sunspots with a regenerative and firming effect.

How is a fractional laser treatment performed?

During a treatment, your doctor will use multiple pulses of laser light on the treatment area, selectively controlling the depth of penetration. For most patients, minimally invasive fractional laser treatment does not involve significant pain. However, before a treatment, a local anesthetic is usually used to help relieve any discomfort. On average, the treatment lasts about 30 minutes. For most patients, one treatment is sufficient. For those with severe acne scarring or deep wrinkles, additional treatments may be recommended. Although many patients are ready to return to work within a day, downtime will vary. In general, the treatment is specialized in terms of its intensity and therefore needs a corresponding recovery time, ranging from 1-2 days to a week. After a treatment, a patient will notice redness, like a mild sunburn.

When can you expect results from fractional laser treatments and how long will they last?

Most patients see immediate improvement after just one treatment. Because the procedure triggers new collagen production, improvement continues for up to 6 months. The new collagen will add structure to the skin, giving it added strength and resilience. Fractional laser treatment is considered safe and effective for most people. However, the treatment may not be right for everyone.

Your dermatologist can determine if you are a good candidate for such fractional laser treatment.
