Classic In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF is a complex process, consisting of many individual stages.

Before the start of the program, the couple is informed extensively about the parameters of the specific method.

Thus, the couple receives essential information about the necessary laboratory testing, the medication to be followed as well as the overall program to be implemented.

The laboratory test of the wife includes the following tests:
  1. Hemoglobin electrophoresis and sickle cell test (to detect stippling of Mediterranean or sickle cell disease)
  2. Blood group, Rhesus
  3. Antibody testing for: rubella, HIV, toxoplasma, CMV, RPR or VDRL, HbsAg (Australian antigen) and anti-HCV/total
  4. Pap test (if not done in the last year)
  5. Cardiological examination, electrocardiogram
  6. Mammography

The husband is also subject to laboratory tests, which include testing for HIV antibodies, HbsAg (Australian antigen), VDRL or RPR and anti-HCV/total.

Medication

This stage includes the prescription of the drugs, which cause the stimulation of the ovaries – perhaps the most important step for a successful IVF – but also the support of the luteal phase, which takes place immediately after the embryo transfer.

In general, the cost of medication for IVF is quite high, so it is recommended that the couple contact their insurance provider for the prescription.

Program

Detailed instructions are given to the couple on the actions they need to take on a daily basis in terms of medication and tests.
