Donation of Grains

Egg donation is carried out in the IVF departments of Iasso and Rhea Obstetrics Clinics as well as in the Athens Medical Center always in collaboration with the Reproduction Doctor Ioannis Kalogirou.

The egg donation program makes it possible to achieve pregnancy in the following cases:

  1. Women with early menopause.
  2. Women with low egg quality.
  3. Women aged 43-50 (Over 50 is prohibited by law)
  4. Women with chromosomal problems or genetic diseases, which make the outcome of a pregnancy impossible or problematic.
  5. Infertile couples, in which the woman has undergone chemotherapy, which makes hormonal stimulation of her ovaries impossible.

All donors, who take part in the donation program of the center (iakentro), are younger than 32 years old, are voluntary donors and according to the Greek Law are only compensated for their expenses and the days of absence from their work.

In any case, egg donation is an altruistic, anonymous and voluntary act.

All donors, before joining the egg donation program, are examined by a pathologist, a geneticist and a gynecologist, to check their physical and mental condition, their genetic material (chromosomal test-karyotype) and their reproductive system.

In addition, they undergo the following laboratory tests:

  • Blood group – Rhesus
  • Hepatitis (B, C)
  • HIV
  • Hemoglobin electrophoresis
  • Mycoplasma, chlamydia, CMV, toxoplasma, listeria
  • Karyotype
  • Cystic fibrosis (when requested)

Donors undergo the classical procedure of hormonal stimulation.

In no case is the fertility of women who decide to become egg donors affected.

They are actually donating eggs that if not retrieved will be destroyed by their body.

  • Egg donation is an altruistic act, voluntary and without financial rewards. Donors are compensated only for the days of work they miss, as part of the donation process and for their travel expenses.
  • Egg and sperm donation is allowed in Greece, provided that the anonymity of the donor and the donor is ensured.
  • Donation is not allowed to same-sex couples and women over 50 years of age.
  • Donors sign a declaration of donation of eggs.
