In most cases, however, the virus recedes on its own, without leaving any damage to the cervix. The test\u00a0<strong>has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (<\/strong><strong>FDA<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The test detects the\u00a0<strong>viral mRNA<\/strong>\u00a0and specifically them\u00a0<strong>oncoproteins E6\/E7<\/strong>. A positive Aptima means that the HPV infection is active and that the oncogenic activity of the virus has begun. The detection of existence\u00a0<strong>of mRNA copies of E6\/E7 oncoproteins<\/strong>\u00a0is a more accurate method, indicative of progression to malignancy, compared to the detection of HPV DNA, because only E6\/E7 mRNA overexpression of high-risk HPV types is\u00a0<strong>sign of initiation of carcinogenesis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div      class=\"vc_row wpb_row section vc_row-fluid\" style=' text-align:left;'><div class=\"full_section_inner clearfix\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_left\">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper   vc_box_border_grey\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.womanclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/aptima-3-300x210.png\" class=\"vc_single_image-img attachment-medium\" alt=\"\" title=\"aptima-3\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.womanclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/aptima-3-300x210.png 300w, https:\/\/www.womanclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/aptima-3.png 537w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div      class=\"vc_row wpb_row section vc_row-fluid\" style=' text-align:left;'><div class=\"full_section_inner clearfix\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>An important advantage is that Aptima, when there is no cervical lesion or when there is a non-severe low-grade lesion, is positive less often compared to an HPV DNA test, i.e. it has a very\u00a0<strong>better specialty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, it has a lot\u00a0<strong>high sensitivity<\/strong>\u00a0for the detection of high-grade lesions, while it is also positive in those few cancers where the L1 part of the viral DNA has been lost and the HPV DNA test is negative.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, this test detects only those women who are really at risk of developing cervical cancer and at the same time does not miss cases of high-grade lesions or cancer that with an HPV DNA test there is a risk of being missed.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when the Test\u00a0<strong>Aptima<\/strong>\u00a0is carried out in conjunction with the\u00a0<strong>ThinPrep<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>pap test,\u00a0<\/strong>then<strong>\u00a0the woman can be sure that she has a very high protection against cervical cancer<\/strong>. The two tests can be done at the same time, from a single reception and visit of the woman to her doctor.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous scientific data now prove that the combination of these two tests (<strong>ThinPrep<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Pap test +\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Aptima<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>mRNA<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>HPV<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>test<\/strong>), Known as\u00a0<strong>Co-testing<\/strong>, offers the best possible protection for women from cervical cancer, especially in the 30-65 age group. What does Co-testing mean?
